20th Century Romance
20th Century Romance collection burque backdrop. Even though all the shit is happening behind you can still be happy with the one you love.
In this piece we see john’s clearly displayed affinity with chaotic backdrops. the work is representative of the chaos and disorder that we experience every day behind the couple we see a long winding road twisting through a beautiful yet damned landscape. The message of this work is clear, beauty and Love can overcome any obstacle. The path we walk is full of dangers and can seem daunting when taken on alone but as long as we have those we love we will be ok. The child playing the violin tells us that aside from our sole mate. John also believed that other forms of artistic expression are key to getting through life and an intrinsic part of love.
Holding hands shows us a what it means to be a woman in a man’s world. it shows us that men are often looking to hold women back from what they want to do. the hands are clasped around all the girls engrogunus zones. showing that while men hold women back they also mean it in a tender and loving way. the intention is not truly to hold them back but to protect them from man’s perceived danger. Along with the six hands there is one final one on the woman’s shoulder. showing us that while men want to protect women they also seek to support and encourage them too.
All the hands show in the artwork are john’s as if he could see his own needness with women and wanted to express this feeling. The work also shows that John felt traditional values where the main cause of women being held back. The work was created in a time when feminist values were in discussion (1990).
Illumination is the only work in these 3 canvas prints which is totally literal in creation. The meaning being nothing more than that of capturing two friends, in a moment that they believed no one was watching
Still lifes of leaves
Again these works are completely literal in their creation. the aspect of these works which makes them far more than just simple still lifes, is that they are some of john’s earliest works all being created in 1975.
The price range is from £15 – £100
